Long-term inappropriate skin care methods, resulting in barrier damage, the ability to lock water decreased, it is very easy to cause the oily sensitive skin. Oily sensitive skin symptoms: easy to oiliness, even acne; redness, itching, tingling; allergies to the environment and skin care products, etc. A safe and mild cosmetics ingredient for oily sensitive skin is a key point for your formulation.
Here we introduce PMOil-control® 9574, a specialized natural ingredient for oily sensitive skin. It not only has an outstanding oil-control effect (far superior to mainstream synthetic PCA zinc and salicylic acid), but also has been shown to be mild and non-irritating in human data; and more importantly, it’s able to soothe the skin irritation caused by other factors.
- PMOil-control® 9574 Oil-control effect
5α-reductase is an important metabolic enzyme in the skin; it irreversibly converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which induces the sebaceous glands to overproduce oil. Therefore, the inhibition rate of 5α-reductase activity can be tested to determine whether the ingredient has the ability to alleviate the overproduction of oil by sebaceous glands.
Plamed did a test to prove PMOil-control® 9574’s ability to inhibit 5α-reductase activity. The test result shows that 1% PMOil-control® 9574 inhibits 5α-reductase by 95.61%, indicating it reduces skin oil by inhibiting 5α-reductase. The oil-control effect is 2.7~5.3 times of PCA zinc, yeast zinc, and salicylic acid, which are mainstream oil control ingredients on the market. At the same dosage, natural ingredient PMOil-control® 9574 is comparable to synthetics in their ability to control oil.
In order to further verify the oil control ability of PMOil-control® 9574 at the cellular level, Plamed also tested PMOil-control® 9574 to inhibit sebum secretion from sebaceous gland cells, and the results are as follows:
The fluorescent part of the above figure shows the lipid droplets secreted by the sebaceous glands. From the figure, it can be concluded that PMOil-control® 9574 has a concentration-dependent property to inhibit the secretion of lipid droplets by the sebaceous glands as the dosage increases.
In conclusion, 0.1% PMOil-control® 9574 can reduce the content of lipid droplets in human sebaceous gland cells, revealing its significant oil-control effect.
In order to compare the oil control ability of PMOil-control® 9574 and PCA zinc (99% purity) at the cellular level, Plamed once again tests the ability of these two ingredients to inhibit the secretion of oil from sebaceous cells at a concentration of the same 0.001% (as PCA zinc’s sebaceous cytotoxicity can only be up to 0.001%), and the results are as follows:
The results of the experiment showed that PMOil-control® 9574 at a concentration of 0.001% reduced the level of intracellular lipid droplets in the sebaceous glands by 22.5%; while PCA Zinc at a concentration of 0.001% reduced the level of intracellular lipid droplets in the sebaceous glands by 7.9% when compared to the control group. Once again, the natural ingredient PMOil-control® 9574 has 3 times the oil-control capacity of PCA zinc.

- PMOil-control® 9574 mildness & no-irritation for skin
Most strong-potency cosmetic ingredients are accompanied by irritants, such as phenylethylresorcinol, retinol, etc.. So does PMOil-control® 9574, as a potent ingredient, have any irritation? Plamed has conducted two experimental models to prove whether PMOil-control® 9574 is irritating or not. The tests are the Chicken Embryo Chorionic Allantoic Membrane Test for eye irritation/corrosion of cosmetic products and the Human Safety Test.
3% PMOil-control® 9574 has no irritation in vitro cosmetic eye irritation/corrosive test based on CAM model.
According to the ” Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics ” (2015 edition), the safety test results were as follows:
Human skin patch test results: Skin adverse reactions occurred in 0 out of 30 people.
- PMOil-control® 9574 potent anti-irritation effect
PMOil-control® 9574, as a natural ingredient for oily sensitive skin, is of strong effect and mild property; does it have a soothing effect on the irritation caused by other ingredients? Plamed demonstrated the anti-irritation efficacy data of PMOil-control® 9574 based on keratinocyte TRPV1 inhibition rate, anti-irritation of zebrafish to glacial acetic acid, anti-inflammation to zebrafish’s neutrophils, and anti-irritation of human capsaicin patch experiments.
1. PMOil-control® 9574 Inhibits the Expression of TRPV1
The main objective of this test was to evaluate the soothing efficacy of PMOil-control® 9574 based on the detection of TRPV1 protein content using capsaicin stimulation on keratinocytes. The results of the test of PMOil-control® 9574 are shown below:
Groups | Relative IOD/
average number of cells |
SD | p-value | Relative inhibition rate |
BC | 1.00 | 0.05 | / | / |
NC | 1.64 | 0.09 | 0.012 # | / |
PC | 0.98 | 0.05 | 0.001** | 40.24 |
PMOil-Control® 9574
-0.08% |
1.15 | 0.08 | 0.000** | 29.88 |
PMOil-Control® 9574
-0.313% |
0.93 | 0.05 | 0.002** | 43.29 |
The green fluorescence of TRPV1 protein significantly reduced (p<0.01) after adding PMOil-Control® 9574 at concentrations of 0.08% and 0.313% (m/V), and the relative inhibition rates were 29.88% and 43.29% respectively, indicating that PMOil-Control® 9574 can inhibit the expression of TRPV1 protein in keratinocytes.
2. Never soothing effect based on zebrafish
This test utilizes glacial acetic acid to stimulate zebrafish to cause inflammatory pain over a larger area and for a longer period of time, resulting in increased movement trajectory and speed. Then detect the total distance and speed of movement of the zebrafish to evaluate whether the sample PMOil-Control® 9574 has a soothing effect. The results were as follows:
The results showed that 0.025% PMOil-control® 9574’s total distance was significantly reduced compared to the model control, revealing PMOil-control® 9574 with a soothing efficacy of 66%.
3. Anti-inflammation effect
Use Sodium Lauryl Sulfonate as a stimuli, it can result in skin-inflammation and accumulation of neutrophils. We concluded that 0.12% PMOil-control® 9574 inhibits the accumulation of 74% of neutrophils, indicating its potent anti-inflammatory and soothing effect.
Usually, natural ingredients are poorly stabilized, but we did the test for stability of different batches and the stability of the system; and the results were good.
Left at different temperatures for 8 months at the same time, PMOil-control® 9574 solution did not appear precipitation, good stability.

Different batches of PMOil-control® 9574
In addition, One of main component of PMOil-control® 9574 is pueraria extract, which can improve the blood flow and flow rate of the skin capillaries, enhance the supply of nutrients to the face skin, and take away the metabolic waste of the skin, thus improving the microcirculation of the skin. Plamed also did the PMOil-control® 9574 antioxidant test, and the scavenging rate of free radicals (DPPH) was 59.98% at 1% concentration. Therefore, some engineers use PMOil-control® 9574 in the field of oil control and anti-aging for sensitive skin.
The natural ingredient, PMOil-control® 9574, not only has an outstanding oil-control effect and is mild and non-irritating, but also has a strong ability to soothe irritation, making it a natural ingredient that is unparalleled in the market for oily sensitive skin.
