1. Mangiferin Overview
Mangiferin is a natural polyphenolic compound. Mangiferin is found in a variety of plants, such as leaves, fruits, bark of Mango and almond tree. Mangiferin is light yellow powder. It is slightly soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, and soluble in hot dilute ethanol, hot dilute methanol; but it is insoluble in non-polar solvents. Plamed Mangiferin is 95% natural cosmetic raw material. As the main active ingredient in mango leaves, Mangiferin has strong antioxidant activity. It can effectively scavenge free radicals. Secondly, Mangiferin can inhibit activity of collagenase and elastinase. Moreover, it can resist the ROS caused by ultraviolet irradiation. Thereby Mangiferin achieves effect of delaying skin aging. Thus Mangiferin can be used in anti-aging and anti-wrinkle cosmetics. Mangiferin also has anti-inflammatory and whitening effect. It improves the barrier function of skin. It acts as a whitening agent in cosmetics.

2. Mangiferin Source
Mango (Latin name: Mangifera indica L.) is a tropical evergreen tree of sumac family. Mango has a wide range of distribution. There are more than 100 countries cultivating mangoes in the world. Mango in China is mostly planted in Guangdong, Guangxi, southern Fujian, Hainan, Yunnan and Taiwan. Among them, Guangxi is the major producing area; Guangxi Baise has the reputation of “First Township of Mango”. Mango is of high nutritional value and is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, carotene, and trace elements such as calcium, phosphorus, selenium and potassium that are essential for human body. As a by-product of mango, mango leaves are rich in many active ingredients including ascorbic acid, tannin, mangiferin, isomangiferin, quercetin, protocatechuic acid, gallic acid, ellagic acid, kaempferol, etc. Various extracts of mango are widely used in pharmaceutical, health care and cosmetics industries; and cosmetics mainly use mango leaves.

5. Mangiferin Benefits
- Anti-oxidation and anti-aging
Mangiferin’s molecular structure has multiple phenolic hydroxyl groups. The groups are important ones for scavenging free radicals and active oxygen. Mangiferin can directly scavenge free radicals. Also it can bind iron and copper ions to inhibit generation of reactive oxygen free radicals. The test result shows that Mangiferin can reduce the content of lipid peroxide and lipofuscin in aged rats; and it significantly increases the activity of SOD in blood and tissues of aged rats. That indicates Mangiferin has property to delay aging. Other experiment has shown that Mangiferin activates antioxidant system of enzyme. It has a good effect on repairing mitochondrial membrane and inhibiting apoptosis. Mangiferin exhibits a great anti-oxidation activity.
