1. Panthenol Overview
Panthenol, also known as Provitamin B5, is a water-soluble and low molecular weight substance. It can easily penetrate into the stratum corneum. After entering the skin, panthenol can be converted into pantothenic acid, which can promote the metabolism of human protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and protect the mucous membrane on the skin and hair luster.

3. Panthenol Benefits
- Moisturizing
Panthenol has good hygroscopicity. Compared with other moisturizers, panthenol has the advantage of having a smaller molecular weight, so it can effectively penetrate the stratum corneum. Panthenol enters the stratum corneum of the skin and can be converted into vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). Thus it can bring moisture to the stratum corneum, effectively improving rough skin, making the skin soft and non-sticky. It is an ideal moisturizing ingredient for oily skins.
Experiments show that cosmetics with higher concentrations of panthenol (1%-5%), after 7 days of use, the water content of the skin is significantly increased. Panthenol can improve the skin barrier and reduce the TEWL of transdermal water loss. From this perspective, panthenol is a great moisturizing ingredient.

- Skin repair and anti-inflammation
After absorption, panthenol is converted into pantothenic acid, which stimulates the growth of skin cells, accelerates the renewal of the epidermis, promotes wound healing and relieves skin inflammation.
2-5% Panthenol can stimulate the regeneration of injured skin. Clinical data proves that Panthenol can help promote the proliferation of fibroblasts (the increase of fibroblasts is an important process of wound healing). Panthenol can significantly stimulate epithelial tissues, reduce itching, and reduce skin inflammation. Therefore, Panthenol has been used in wound treatment in Europe.
- Hair care
Panthenol can penetrate into the hair, moisturize the hair for a long time, improve hair luster, reduce hair split ends, prevent brittleness and breakage, and repair damaged hair.
